    World Health Day was celebrated jointly by the Indian Red cross Society, Puducherry Branch and Directorate of Health & Family Welfare Services, Puducherry on 7th April 2010 with the theme "Antimicrobial Resistance, at the conference hall of the Rajiv Gandhi Govt. women and Children Hospital, Puducherry. An Essay Competition on the above theme was conducted for the paramedical workers and the staff nurses of Medical Institutions.Dr. H. Ranganath, Chairman, Managing Committee (IRCS) delivered the welcome address. Dr. Dilip Kumar Baliga Secretary (IRCS) - cum- Director (Health) presided over the function and distributed prizes to the winner. Dr. Shashi Kala, Professor of Microbiology, PIMS, Puducherry, the guest speaker of the day spoke on the theme "Antimicrobial Resistance". Dr T.B. Kasthuri, Medical superintendent, Raiv Gandhi Govt. Women and Children Hospital, Puducherry and Dr. Vijaya Balakandan, Mission Director, Puducherry State Health Mission, Puducherry felicitated. Dr. N. Nilamani, Deputy Director (IEC) proposed the vote of thanks.

    World Red Cross Day was celebrated in a befitting manner by the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch on 8th May 2010 with the theme "Find the Volunteer Inside you" at the Conference hall of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Women and Children Hospital, Puducherry. Dr. H. Ranganath, Chairman, Managing Committee (IRCS) welcomed the august gathering. Thiru Harish L. Metha, Vice President, Indian Red Cross Society, Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu State branch was the Chief Guest of the function. Dr. Dilip Kumar Baliga , Secretary, (IRCS) –cum Director (Health) presided over the function. Dr. N. Govindasamy, Treasurer (IRCS) felicitated. Prof. DR. V. Gopal, member of managing Committee (IRCS) proposed the vote of thanks.

  • World Population Day 11-07-2011

    World Population Day is celebrated throughout the World on 11th July every year. Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services and Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch organized a rally on 11-07-2011 on the occasion of the World Population Day- 2011. The theme for the year 2011 was "Calling attention to Urgent Global issues" More than 200 students from the Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research of Health Sciences participated in the rally, carrying placards with World Population Day Slogans to create awareness among the public.Dr V. Govindaraj, Medical Superintend, IGGGH&PGI, Puducherry flag off the march at Gandhi Statue in the beach and culminate at Gandhi Statue in presence of Prof. DR.V. Gopal, Chairman, Managing Committee (IRCS) and Other Management committee members. Dr. Nilamani, Deputy Director (IEC) and Dr. K.R. Prakash, Deputy Director (Imm)., Puducherry felicitated.

    Geneva Conventions Day was celebrated by the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch on 12-08-2011 at 3..00 P.M in the Multipurpose hall of Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Instutiete of Health & Sciences, Govt of Puducherry Institution, Puducherry . Prof. DR.V.Gopal Chairman, Managing Committee welcomed the audience and highlighted on the importance of Geneva Convention Day. Dr. Dilipkumar Baliga, Secretary (IRCS) - cum- Director (Health) delivered the presidential address and presented a memento to the Chief Guest Shri. Chandramohan, Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Puducherry. Dr. E.M. Rajan, State Liaison Officer, NSS, the chief guest, delivered a thought provoking speech on the subject "Find the Volunteer Inside You". Thiru. N. Govindasamy Treaurer (IRCS) honored the past Chairman Dr. H. Ranganath and Dr. A. S. Deivakunjari Past Vice- Chairman (IRCS) for their services rendered to the IRCS from 2007 to 2011. Dr. V. Vasudevaiah, Dean, MTPG&RIHS, felicitated. Dr.K.R. Prakash, Deputy Director (Immuniation) –cum – Vice Chairman (IRCS) proposed vote of thanks.

  • Blood grouping and anemia detection camp

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry organized a blood grouping and anemia detection camp for the students of V. Vengada Subba Reddiyar Govt. Technical Hr. Sec. School Lawspet, Puducherry on 28-08-2011. During the camp Three hundred students participated and benefited. DR.V. Gopal, Chairman, (IRCS) Managing committee (IRCS), Dr. K.R. Prakash , Deputy Director ( Imm)-cum – Vice – Chairman (IRCS), Thiru Stephen Selvaraj, Mr. Matrin Selvaraj and Mr. Raman felicitated.

    World Literacy Day was celebrated by the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch on 09-09-2011 in the V.Vengada Subba Reddiyar Govt. Technical Hr. Sec. School, Lawspet, Puducherry. Dr. K.R. Prakash Vice – Chairman – Cum –Deputy Director (Imm) welcomed the audience and Dr. J. Martin Selvaraj, Co-ordinator highlighted on the importance of literacy. Dr. Dilipkumar Baliga, Secretary (IRCS) - cum- Director (Health) delivered the Key note address and presented a memento to the Chief Guest. In his address he stated that Youth is nation's strength and pride. Prof DR. V. Gopal, Chairman, Managing committee, Puducherry Branch delivered the Presidential address. Prizes and certificates were distributed by the chief guest to the winners of the essay competition conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society. Puducherry Branch to mark the occasion. Thiru D.   • First Aid Training camp at Satya Training Centre Muthialpet, Puducherry, 16-09-2011.

    Indian Red Cross society, Puducherry Branch conducted a first aid training camp for the teacher of Satya Training centre on 09-09-2011. Mr. Arul, Staff Nurse from the Indira Gandhi Govt. General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute, Puducherry was the recourse person. 15 faculty and two staff members of the Satya Training Centre benefitted .

  • World Heart Day(28-09-2011)

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry branch and Department of Health and Family Welfare Services (Information, Education and Communication) jointly organized the "World Heart Day" on 28-09-2011 in the conference hall of the Indira Gandhi Govt. General Hospital & Post Graduate Institute, Puducherry   Prof. DR.V. Gopal, Chairman, Managing committee welcomed the audience and introduced the speakers of the day, Dr. A. Manimarane and Dr. S. Anandharaja, Senior Cardiologists, Indira Gandhi Govt. General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute, Puducherry. In the deliberations entitled, "All you wanted to know about your heart" the Speakers detailed about the functioning of heart and steps to be taken to prevent the Heart attack and other heart ailments.Patients and general public, took part actively and raised doubts and got them clarified and interacted with the doctors for nearly four hours. Members of the health care team participated in large number and benefited.

  • National Day for Disaster Reduction (02-10-2011)

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch organized National Day for Disaster Reduction Programme on Sunday the 02nd October 2011 in the Lourde conference hall, Thillai Mestri St, Puducherry. Prof. DR.V. Gopal, Chairman, Management welcomed the audience and introduced the speaker of the day, Thiru P. Nagendiran, State Training Centre, Education Department , Puducherry. The Chief guest spoke on the subject "Disaster Reduction and Prevention". Clear instructions on the do's & don'ts during a disaster were given to the students. Dr. E.M. Rajan , State Liaison officer, NSS, Puducherry and Thiru S.A. Lourdusamy, Principal, Amalorpavam Hr. Sec. School felicitated. Dr.K.R.     Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry and NSS unit of Mother Theresa Post Graduate & research Institute of Health sciences, jointly organised a Blood donation camp on eve of Voluntary Blood donation Day. Staff and Students of MTPG&RIHS actively participated and donated blood . 45 units of blood was collected by the Medical team of the Blood Bank , IGGGH&PGI, Puducherry in the camp .

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch organised a Blood Donation camp at Sai Ram College of Education on 21-10-2011 Dr. V. Gopal, Chairman inaugurated the Blood donation camp Around 46 Teachers and Students from the Sai Ram college donated blood. Dr. K.R. Prakash, Deputy Director (Imm) –cum- Vice Chairman(IRCS) felicitated. Many members of the managing committee took active part.

  • Cancer Awarness Programme 16-11-2011

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch organized a Cancer Awareness programme on Wednesday the 16th November 2011 in the conference hall of Petit Seminar Higher Secondary School, Puducherry. Prof. DR.V. Gopal, Chairman, Managing Committee welcomed the audience and introduced the speakers of the day. Dr. K.V. Raman Secretary (IRCS) –cum- Director (Health) delivered the presidential address and presented a memento to the Guest Speaker. Dr. Ashutosh Mukerji, Assistant Professor, Regional Cancer Centre, JIPMER the Guest speaker spoke on the subject "Cancer Prevention – Do's & Don'ts". The speaker created awareness among the students on cancer, its symptoms and prevention. Fr. M.S. John Bosco, Principal, Petit Seminar Hr. Sec. School & Dr.K.R. Prakash, Deputy Director (Immunization) –cum – Vice Chairman (IRCS) felicitated. Mr. Hari Babu, Member of Managing Committee (IRCS) proposed vote of thanks.

  • First aid training programe to the students of MTPG&RIHS - 28-11-2011

    First Aid Training programme was conducted by Dr.Srinivasan, IGGGH&PGI, Puducherry and Mr. Arul, staff Nurse, IGGGH&PGI, Puducherry on the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebtration of the National Pharmacy Week by the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch at Mother Theresa Post Graduate Institute of Health & Sciences, Puducherry on 28-11-2011. To mark this occasion, Essay, Quiz & elocution competition were conducted. 149 students actively participated.Prizes and certificate were distributed to the winner by the Dr. K. V. Raman, Secretary (IRCS) – cum- Director (Health). Dr. V. Vasudevaiah, Dean, Mother Theresa Post Graduate Institute of Health Sciences felicitated. Arrangements for the program was made by , Dr. V. Gopal, Chairman, (IRCS) and other management Committee members of Indian Red Cross Society .

  • Inter-state Youth Red Cross Training Camp at Sannihit and Braham Sarovar, Kurushetra ( Haryana) - 19-12-2011

Ilango Programme officer from the Achariya Arts and Sciences College, Villianur, Puducherry to participate in the Inter-state Youth Red Cross Training Camp from 19th to 25th December -2011 at Kurushetra (Haryana) conducted by Indian Red Cross society, Haryana State Branch.

  • National Youth Exchange Programme at Bhawan's S.L Public School Amrisar, Punjab - 24-12-2011

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch sponsored 6 YRC students and Mr. B. Ilango Programme officer from the Achariya Arts and Sciences College, Villianur, Puducherry to participate in the Inter-state Youth Red Cross Training Camp from 19th to 25th December -2011 at Kurushetra (Haryana) conducted by Indian Red Cross society, Haryana State Branch.Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch conducted a National Youth Red Cross programme at Bhawan's S.L Public School, Amrisar, Punjab for 5 days from 24th to 31st December 2011 Mr. B. Saravanan Counsellor and four JRC students of Achariya Siksha Manidiar were sponsored by IRCS-PB to the camp.

  • Inter-state Juniors Red Cross Training Camp at Jegan Matha Matriculation School, Trichy - 26-12-2011

    Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu State Branch organized Inter-state Junior Red cross Training Camp for 5 days from 26th to 30th December 2011 at the Jegan Matha Matriculation School, Trichy. Thiru N. Srinivasan, Counsellor, and six Junior Red Cross members from the St Patrick Matric Hr. Sec. School were sponsored by IRCS-PB to the camp.

  • Thane Cyclone Relief activity by Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry Branch - 30-12-2011

    About 2500 families in and around Puducherry were affected by Thane cyclone. . Indian Red Cross Society, managing committee members visited the affected areas and distributed food packets and biscuits to the children. Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry branch requested the IRCS, National Headquarters New Delhi to provide the following materials to the cyclone affected people of Puducherry as soon as possible.

    1. Kitchen utensils set - 2000 nos. 2. Clothing (Blankets, Towel, Sarees, Lungi) - 2000 nos. 3. Bucket with lid and mug – 2000 nos. As requested , Four National Disaster Response team members from the IRCS, NHQ, New Delhi visited Puducherry and assessed the damage and helped in getting 500 numbers of the relief materials.

  • International Youth Day - 12-01-2012

    On 12th January -2012 the International Youth Day was celebrated by the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry at the Mother Theresa Post Graduate & Research Institute of Health & Sciences. On this occasion Dr. V. Vasudevaiah, Dean of MTPG&RIHS presided over the function. Dr. V. Gopal, Principal,i/c College of Pharmacy, MTPGIHS – cum Chairman (IRCS) welcomed the audience. Thiru N. SenthiKumar, Consultant Voluntary Blood Donation, Pondicherry Aids Control Society deliverd a lecture on "Motivating volunteers for blood donation" to the students of the MTPG&RIHS. In his address, he highlighted the need for blood donation, the importance of safe blood transfusion and the risk of unscreened blood transfusion. Mr. TamilMaran, proposed the vote of thanks

  • Blood Donation Camp at Nilkamal Furniture Company 30-01-2012

    Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry branch organised a Blood Donation camp at Nilkamal Furniture company, Koddapakkam, Puducherry on 30-01-2012 ( Monday) to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji. Prof. DR V. Gopal, Chairman, Managing Committee (IRCS) , Dr. K.R. Prakash, Deputy Director (IRCS) motivated the donors and had made arrangement for the camp. 37 staff of Nilkamal Furniture Company donated blood during this Occasion.

    Indian Red Cross Society Puducherry branch organized a Youth Red Cross Training programme on 12th March 2012 in the conference hall of Saradha Gangatharan Arts & Sciences College Puducherry. Dr. K.R. Prakash, Deputy Director (Imm)-cum – Vice- Chairman (IRCS) managing committee welcomed the audience. . Thiru Sivaramachandran. O introduced the speaker of the day. Prof. Dr. V. Gopal, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry delivered the presidential address. Dr. K.V. Raman secretary (IRCS)-cum – Director (health) delivered the key note address and presented memento to the guest speaker. Dr. Lawrence , National Disaster Response team member , NHQ, New Delhi participated as chief Guest delivered speaks on principal aims and activities of the Red Cross Society. Mr. Elango, Junior Red Cross , Convener, Villupuram, District also delivered about the formation of Junior Red Cross / Youth Red Cross in School / College .Dr. S. Srinivasan Principal, Sardha Gangathjaran College of Arts and Sciences feclictated. Indian Red Cross Society Management Committee members in large nos participated.   • Relief materials Distribution to Thane Cyclone affected people

    As per the request made by the Indian Red Cross Society, Puducherry branch the National Headquarters of IRCS, New Delhi provided 500 sets of relief materials to Puducherry & karaikal region . Details below

    • Sarees -500 nos
    • Kitchen sets -400nos
    • Cotton blankets – 500 tnos
    • Gents dhotis -500nos
    • Plastic buckets -500nos

    For this relief materials distribution operation , IRCS , NHQ, New Delhi deputed three disaster response team members head by the Thiru Dr. S. Lawrence NDRT/ . Thiru S. Lawrence team and some of the management committee members visited the affected areas in Puducherry and Karaikal areas distributed the relief materials. Youth Red Cross members from the Saradha Gangatharan College of Arts & Sciences in large nos were participated in the relief materials distribution .
